Northen Villages Water Crisis: Residents Voice Their Struggles
Residents of Grand-Baie, Mon-Choisy, and Pointe-aux-Canonniers, approximately thirty in total, gathered on Tuesday, November 5, at the Central Water Authority (CWA) office in Pamplemousses to express their frustrations over a severe water shortage impacting their communities.
Antonio Masse, a Grand-Baie resident, shared the serious consequences of not having access to potable water for three months.
He lamented the distress this has caused many families in the area. “For three months now, our families have been suffering due to the lack of water.
We have decided to confront the authorities and demand answers regarding how long we have to endure this situation.
It is heartbreaking to see children running around every morning, searching for water. It feels like a real struggle.
We firmly believe it is time for the CWA to take action to provide us with at least some water. The time has come to put an end to this water crisis,” he stated emphatically.
Women and children have been particularly affected, as they bear the responsibility of transporting water for their families.
Local residents emphasized the health risks associated with the water shortage, which heightens the likelihood of infectious diseases.
“I wonder if we will ever get back the time we spend hunting for water for our families. These hours could have been better utilized elsewhere,” one community member remarked, reflecting the broader impact of the water crisis on their daily lives.
The residents’ plea is highlighting an urgent need for intervention from the CWA to resolve the ongoing water supply issues faced by these northern communities.
