General Elections: Ban on Using Imaging Devices in Polling Stations

As the upcoming legislative elections approach, the Electoral Commission’s Office is reminding voters of specific provisions outlined in the “National Assembly Elections Regulations” of 2014, particularly regulations 30 (6) and 30 (7).

Regulation 30 (6) strictly prohibits the use of any camera, mobile phone, or other electronic devices to capture images of ballots, whether they are marked or unmarked.

Violating this rule can result in a prison sentence of up to two years.

Meanwhile, Regulation 30 (7) states that unauthorized individuals are forbidden from removing any ballot from polling or counting stations.

Additionally, anyone found in possession of a ballot outside of these designated areas, without proper authorization, is also committing an offense. Offenders may face a prison term of up to two years as well.

The Electoral Commission emphasized the importance of adhering to these regulations to ensure the integrity and security of the electoral process.
