Social Media Suspension: Crisis Committee Assembles, Says PMO
In a statement released on the morning of November 1, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced that a crisis committee is currently convening to address ongoing risks in Mauritius.
This action follows a directive from the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA), which has instructed all telecommunications operators to temporarily suspend access to all social media platforms until November 11, 2024.
The ICTA’s decision was made to ensure national security and maintain the integrity of the nation, as well as that of its international partners.
The authority emphasized the “real risk” that the national security and the integrity of the Republic could be compromised, hence the need for such preventive measures.
