The controversial figure known as ‘Missier Moustass,’ first mentioned by Sherry Singh, has made headlines again. On Thursday morning, October 31, he released fifteen new audio recordings linked to the ongoing “sniffing” scandal on his YouTube channel.

Identified Voices in the Recordings

The recordings feature the voices of several prominent individuals, including lawyers Me Raouf Gulbul, Me Shamila Sonah-Ori, Me Samad Golamaully, Me Ashley Hurhangee, Me Ravin Chetty, Me Désiré Basset, Me Avinash Sunassee, Police Commissioner Anil Kumar Dip, former CCID head Hemant Jangi, Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Rajaram, Attorney General Maneesh Gobin, special advisor to the Prime Minister Zouberr Joomaye, former PMO Chief of Staff Nayen Kumar Ballah, and Kobita Jugnauth, spouse of the Prime Minister.

Conversations from July 2022

The recordings suggested that the conversations took place in July 2022, shortly after Sherry Singh’s resignation as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mauritius Telecom (MT) on June 30th of that year.

Singh publicly alleged that a team of foreign technicians had been granted access, under pressure from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), to perform “data capture” in April 2022, tapping into the point where the SAFE undersea fiber-optic cable connects with MT at the Baie-du-Jacotet station.

This Indian team, reportedly recommended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was led by the individual dubbed “Missier Moustass” by Singh.

Allegations of ‘Data Capture’ and Official Responses

While Singh claimed that the purpose of the team’s visit was to conduct ‘sniffing’ for Internet data and information, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth countered that they were merely there for a survey of the cable.

Insights from the Audio Recordings

The audio clips, allegedly from phone conversations, hinted at attempts to suppress the scandal by influencing Girish Guddoy, who was the Chief Technical Officer of MT and had accompanied the Indian team to Baie-du-Jacotet on April 15.

In a report submitted to interim CEO Michel Degland after Singh’s departure, Guddoy stated, “The survey was carried out using their tools whereby they connected to several Internet links we have on the SAFE cable and performed a two-minute data capture on each link. Once the data was captured, the tools were removed.”

Guddoy’s Resignation and Return

Guddoy resigned on July 19, 2022, but returned to MT as Chief Service Officer on August 4, 2022.

Allegations of Pressure to Alter Statements

A prominent figure in the recordings appeared to be Me Sonah-Ori, who is a personal lawyer to Pravind Jugnauth.

In one conversation, her voice is heard attempting to persuade Guddoy to alter his initial statement.

Guddoy reportedly confessed that during a meeting with Sherry Singh, “Missier Moustass” had confirmed that the purpose of their visit to Baie-du-Jacotet was indeed to conduct “data capture.”

In the recording, Sonah-Ori is heard advising that Guddoy “should not have included in his statement that the Indian confirmed this.”

Attempted Influence on Guddoy’s Lawyer

In another audio clip, the conversation revolved around the lawyer pressuring Guddoy to modify his statement.

Guddoy resisted, and the lawyer acknowledged this resistance but indicated he will defer the matter to the CEO of MT.

Pressure on Sherry Singh

Another segment captured a discussion allegedly between a well-connected lawyer and a senior officer from the CCID, probing strategies to apply pressure on Sherry Singh.

The police officer noted that Singh has denied all allegations and has not breached any laws in Mauritius.

Plans for Sherry Singh’s Arrest

In subsequent recordings, the conversation involved plans regarding Sherry Singh’s potential arrest.

One voice, attributed to the Commissioner of Police, mentioned that the Prime Minister ordered an alert to be issued at the Passport and Immigration Office regarding Singh.

The conversation implied urgency, as there are discussions about the necessity for police to act before Singh departed for a press interview.

Zouberr Joomaye and Maneesh Gobin on Communication Strategies

In a separate audio exchange, Zouberr Joomaye and Maneesh Gobin discussed media strategies to minimize the backlash against Singh amid an international investigation concerning him, with Joomaye advising caution in the press not to get entangled with Singh.

Kobita Jugnauth’s Involvement

Kobita Jugnauth is also featured in one of the recordings, discussing logistical details regarding a delay involving an individual working at Baie-du-Jacotet.

She expressed concern over the necessity of an impending visit to avoid any disruption in Internet service in the country.

Conclusion

The release of these fifteen audio recordings further is complicating the already intricate narrative surrounding the “sniffing” scandal.

It raised pertinent questions about the integrity of individuals in power and the potential misuse of authority.
