Sherry Singh, the former CEO of Mauritius Telecom, has been transferred to the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) for questioning in connection with the ongoing investigation into the “Moustass Leaks.” He was arrested this afternoon by the Special Striking Team. His lawyer, Me Urmila Boolell, arrived at Central Barracks around 5:30 PM to represent him.

In addition to Singh, three other suspects were arrested on Friday, November 1, as part of the investigation: Jamirouddin Mohamad Yeadally, Nadeem Reshade Varsally, and Kaviraj Ramjhuria.

These individuals are currently being questioned at the Central Barracks, although the specific charges against them have not yet been revealed.

The Moustass Leaks referred to a scandal that emerged recently following the release of recorded phone conversations involving various political figures, lawyers, civil society members, diplomats, and journalists.

These recordings were leaked on social media, prompting widespread concern.

In response to the situation, the government has temporarily suspended social media access in Mauritius, a measure that will remain in effect until November 11, the day after the general elections scheduled for November 10.

This decision has sparked significant backlash from the opposition, non-parliamentary parties, legal experts, and civil society groups, who view it as an infringement on free expression and a tactic to suppress dissent leading up to the elections.
