Bérenger & Ramgoolam Invite Voters to Unite for a Transformed Mauritius
On Tuesday, October 29, Paul Bérenger, leader of the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM), and Navin Ramgoolam, leader of the Labour Party, addressed a gathering in La Tour-Koenig, calling on voters to fully support their alliance in a bid to “transform Mauritius.” Their speeches highlighted the need for unity amidst what they described as a divisive campaign by the outgoing government.
Bérenger criticized the ruling party, the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM), for leveraging communal divisions, particularly following the appointment of Shakeel Mohamed as a potential third-in-command in a future government.
He stated, “The MSM is using communal discord to create divisions, but we must remain united.”
He emphasized that the Alliance for Change represents a national team comprising all Mauritians.
Ramgoolam echoed these sentiments, presenting concrete measures aimed at alleviating the economic burden on Mauritian citizens.
He proposed the establishment of a Rs 10 billion fund designed to reduce the costs of essential goods.
“Mauritians are struggling to make ends meet. Prices are continually rising,” he noted, stressing that the country is at a “crossroads of destiny” and that immediate action is needed to restore its prosperity.
He also raised concerns about the ongoing drug crisis, sharing his experiences from door-to-door visits in his constituency of Pamplemousses–Triolet, where he witnessed the severity of the issue firsthand.
In a unified call to action, both leaders urged voters not to waste their votes on smaller parties and to prevent the return of the MSM to power.
Concluding with a sense of urgency, the leader of the MMM remarked, “Everything is a priority in this country, and we must work together to rebuild.”
