Fire Breaks Out at Electoral Commission Building in Rodrigues
On Wednesday morning, October 30, a fire broke out in a building housing the Electoral Commission in Rodrigues. Emergency responders, including firefighters and members of the Special Mobile Force, were quickly dispatched to the scene to combat the blaze.
In a live Defi Media broadcast earlier on same day, Johnson Roussety, the former Chief Commissioner of Rodrigues, spoke with the current Chief Commissioner, Franceau Grandcourt, who expressed his sadness over the destruction of what he referred to as a heritage building.
Grandcourt reported that the archives located within the building were also affected by the fire.
The situation has raised eyebrows, particularly with the upcoming elections on the horizon.
Grandcourt described the incident as “strange,” noting that certain important documents were burned during the fire.
Meanwhile, Roussety is raising concerns and questions regarding the circumstances surrounding the blaze, given its timing just before the elections.
