Mauritius Slides to 2nd Place in Ibrahim Governance Index for Africa

In the latest Ibrahim Index of African Governance, Mauritius has lost its top position in governance, now ranking second, with Seychelles claiming the top spot.
Mauritius scored 72.8, reflecting a decline attributed to weaknesses in critical sectors such as healthcare services, anti-discrimination protections, and a perceived deterioration in public safety.
Despite this setback, Mauritius continues to demonstrate strong performance in several key areas.
The island nation achieved a score of 70.8 in security and the rule of law, 71.6 in participation and rights, and 74.8 in economic opportunities.
Additionally, Mauritius excelled in human development, scoring 73.8.
One standout area is education, where Mauritius earned an impressive score of 85.4, highlighting the country’s enduring potential despite recent challenges in governance.
This data underscored a complex picture of governance in Mauritius, illustrating both its strengths and areas needing improvement.
