A regional meeting of the Alliance Lepep was held in Melrose, constituency No. 10, on Friday, October 18, featuring the outgoing Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and several members of the Alliance Lepep. Speaking to a large audience, Jugnauth promised a monthly allocation of Rs 5,000 for every child from birth until the age of 18.

“With this measure, parents will receive a total of Rs 1,080,000. This is a commitment I make, and my word is sacred,” he stated, drawing applause from the crowd.

Jugnauth expressed confidence in the growing public support for the Alliance Lepep, asserting that audiences are larger than they were in 2019.

“Everywhere I go, the crowds are more numerous. This is a sign that the majority of the population is with us,” he claimed.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of his alliance with the Mauritian Social Democrat Party (PMSD), introducing a team composed of both young leaders and experienced politicians, which he believes is crucial for the country’s future development.

During his speech, he did not shy away from criticizing the opposition, specifically targeting Navin Ramgoolam and Paul Bérenger.

He recalled past scandals involving Ramgoolam, mentioning the discovery of $3 million in his possession and questioning the source of these funds.

“Is this drug money, corruption, or bribery?” he inquired.

Jugnauth condemned the coalition between the MMM (Mauritian Militant Movement) and the PTR (Labour Party), labelling it as a “drug mafia.”

He warned that if this alliance were to come to power, the country could face an overwhelming influx of drugs.

Turning to Sherry Singh, who has allied himself with the Alliance du changement, Jugnauth accused him of orchestrating plots and criticized his management of Mauritius Telecom’s funds.

He insinuated that Singh might have secret accounts abroad, asking, “Do you and your wife really not have accounts in Dubai?”

The Prime Minister laid out a vision for modernizing Mauritius, including plans for a specialized unit for kidney transplants and the construction of a new road connecting the North and East to improve access to the airport.

He promised that, if granted another mandate, he would continue to transform and modernize the country while ensuring economic and social stability.

“My government is committed to improving the lives of Mauritians, and unemployment has decreased,” he remarked, while berating the opposition’s plans that he claimed would cut state allocations and pensions.

The gathering also featured speeches from the three candidates running in constituency No. 10: Vikram Hurdoyal, Vikesh Sohodeb, and Sameer Chitbahal. Hurdoyal highlighted the government’s achievements, asserting that the opposition lacks a clear program for change.

“What do they want to change? They don’t even know what to say! Their only aim is to bring down Pravind Jugnauth.”

Aurore Perraud explained the PMSD’s decision to ally with the MSM, stating that the Blues have always acted for the good of the country and that their coalition is founded on acknowledging the progress made by the current government.
