Michaël Sik Yuen, a key figure in the Alliance du Changement, announced plans to remove the Value Added Tax (VAT) on essential products during a rally held Wednesday evening, October 16 at Résidence Malherbes. The Alliance, including Richard Duval and Ajay Gunness, is actively mobilizing support in anticipation of the upcoming general elections and a significant meeting scheduled for coming Sunday, October 20, in Curepipe.

During his address, Sik Yuen addressed the rising cost of living, expressing optimism that political change could strengthen the value of the Mauritian rupee and restore purchasing power for citizens.

He pledged that essential goods would be exempt from VAT, a move he claimed would significantly benefit many families.

In addition, he highlighted a project aimed at facilitating the importation of medications through various companies to make these vital products more accessible to the public.

Sik Yuen further committed to gradually increasing pensions, envisioning that by the end of their term, beneficiaries would receive approximately Rs 22,000.

His colleague, Richard Duval, urged community members to place their trust in the Alliance du Changement, cautioning against the dangers of a government that jeopardizes the nation’s future.

“Once elected, we promise to remain engaged and responsive to the needs of our constituents,” he stated.

Ajay Gunness took the opportunity to announce plans to investigate several high-profile cases, including the assassination of Soopramanien Kistnen and the Angus Road matter.

He clarified that their aim was not vengeance but rather a genuine desire to uncover the truth surrounding these incidents.

Gunness also criticized his former colleague, Steven Obeegadoo, for actions taken during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically the destruction of homes belonging to squatters.

Additionally, Mireille Martin, also in attendance, encouraged voters to support the three candidates from the Alliance du Changement.

She reminisced about a time before the 2014 elections when living standards were higher than they have been in the past decade.

Jasmine Toulouse, present at the rally, echoed these sentiments, calling for a unified and substantial vote on November 10.

“We must consider our children’s future and protect them from the scourge of drugs,” she urged.

The Alliance du Changement has scheduled a gathering for supporters on October 22 at Garden Village at 10:30 a.m., followed by participation in Nomination Day at the Camp-Caval community center.
