Drones Banned at Public Gatherings, Police Warn

The use of drones at congresses and public meetings is strictly prohibited, according to an announcement from local law enforcement. Citing the Civil Aviation (Amendment Regulations) of 2016, authorities have clarified that anyone wishing to operate a drone in such settings must first obtain permission from the Director of Civil Aviation.

This ban applies specifically to congested areas or gatherings of more than 500 people.

The police have emphasized that drones must maintain a distance of at least 150 meters from the venue of the event.

This restriction also extending to important electoral dates, including Nomination Day, the day of voting, and the following day when votes are counted.

Violators of this regulation face serious consequences, including a fine of up to 10,000 Mauritian Rupees and a potential prison sentence of up to 12 months.

The police reiterated the importance of adhering to these guidelines to ensure public safety during large gatherings.
