‘Alliance du Changement’ Promises Increased Carer’s Allowance & Social Reforms
Eshan Juman, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Grand-Baie, held a lively evening meeting on Tuesday, October 15, to present his vision for the future and to address pressing social issues in the region. During the gathering, Juman voiced his concerns about the National Empowerment Foundation, which he claims has eliminated social assistance programs for approximately 1,400 families in the area.
In contrast, he accused the Ministry of Social Security of allocating Rs 1.4 billion to hotel owners, raising questions about the government’s priorities.
Juman also criticized Showkutally Soodhun, the Mauritian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, for making a promise of USD 6 million for the construction of mosques that has yet to materialize. “Five years have passed, and still nothing has been delivered,” he lamented.
Reflecting on the grim impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Juman recalled the tragic deaths of many patients dependent on dialysis during the health crisis.
He pledged that once the Alliance of Change comes to power, they would release a report detailing the fatalities among dialysis patients during the pandemic, asserting, “All those who have suffered deserve accountability.”
In addressing the concerns of his constituents, Juman reassured them that the Alliance of Change would not eliminate existing social allowances.
He announced that widows would be entitled to receive two pensions: the universal pension and a widow’s pension.
Additionally, he pledged to increase the Carer’s Allowance from Rs 3,500 to Rs 10,000.
Juman also revealed plans for the establishment of a detoxification center for drug addicts in constituency No. 6, emphasizing his commitment to addressing substance abuse issues.
He envisioned transforming Grand-Baie into a thriving tourist destination.
Urging his supporters to rally behind the Alliance of Change, Juman likened the three candidates competing in the constituency to football stars Ronaldo, Mbappé, and Messi, implying their considerable capabilities.
He further asserted that once in power, he added that the leader of the MSM party, Pravind Jugnauth, should be imprisoned for failing to prioritize the welfare of the people, highlighting the intense suffering experienced by residents.
He concluded by mentioning a growing market for Apollo noodles, indicating the rising hardships faced by local businesses.
