The atmosphere was charged at the number 14 constituency during a vibrant meeting filled with shades of deep red and orange at the social center of La Gaulette on Monday, October 14. Alliance Lepep candidates Alan Ganoo, Tania Diolle, and Prakash Ramchurrun brought together activists from all corners of the island to rally behind their leader, Alan Ganoo, of the Muvman Patriot Morisien. Supporters of the MSM party were also in attendance.

Ganoo emphasized the importance of staying united, urging attendees not to fall into the “trap of change.”

He projected confidence in their path towards a decisive victory, citing past struggles that led to the restoration of the Chagos Islands by the British.

He asserted that the new British government is bound to acknowledge Mauritius’ claim over these territories and has agreed to provide compensation.

“With this money, we will ensure continuity for the next five years, during which our island will become one of the most developed in the region.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Sir Aneerood Jugnauth for this struggle and to our Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, a courageous statesman,” he stated.

Ganoo further promised to bring legality to the nation and reduce poverty, stating, “We have restored dignity to the most vulnerable.

A government is judged by its actions and development capacity. The country has rebounded in just three and a half years after two years of COVID-19.

A Mauritian returning from abroad after three years would find it unrecognizable due to the development projects underway: flyovers, a new metro, a new hospital, despite ongoing misery.

We have built 400 houses in every constituency, including Bambous, Beau-Songe, Surinam, and Riambel.”

The outgoing Minister of Transport highlighted the achievements of his government.

He noted, “Pravind Jugnauth has ensured that our parents can explore our country, whether by catamaran or visiting Rodrigues Island. His social measures are extraordinary: Rs 2,500 for children aged 1 to 3 years and Rs 2,000 for those aged 3 to 10.

At 18, every young person will receive a Rs 20,000 gift. Fishermen will also benefit from assistance exceeding Rs 800.

The government will provide subsidies for pilgrimages to various spiritual sites.”

Tania Diolle expressed gratitude to the residents, stating, “The people of 14 have placed their trust in me, and I will not betray that trust.”

She spoke passionately about her commitment to constituency 14, appreciating the warm welcome she received, believing makes a significant difference.

“Alan Ganoo is kind and has shown me the way. My message is clear: development should not be for us, but for the people and our constituents.

Alan has passed the torch to me, and we will follow his philosophy, which gives purpose to our work in constituency 14.

Many projects have been accomplished here; I pledge my support, but I cannot evaluate the past of 14 alone.”

Prakash Ramchurrun, on the other hand, pointed out the competition they face, remarking, “You’re witnessing a rivalry over there among the Alliance of Change.”

He took stock of the projects delivered in the constituency, while criticizing their opponents. “I used to be called Baba, but Baba has grown now, and we have shown you what we can achieve.

Our opponents resort to distributing beer bottles and envelopes. In 2024, they will try to buy your votes.

Their candidates struggle to gain traction, while we have a clear edge. Here, we have a united team, and you must not make mistakes nor allow yourselves to be dragged into petty tactics.”

The meeting concluded with a sense of solidarity and commitment among the attendees towards their common objectives for the future development of Mauritius.
