Former Mayor Resigns from the Muvman Liberater
Ken Fong, the former mayor of Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill and a defeated candidate for the Muvman Liberater in the Beau-Bassin/Petite Rivière constituency in 2019, has officially left the political party. His resignation came after he attended a nighttime meeting of the Alliance du Changement at No. 19 in Camp Levieux, where he was present alongside candidates Deven Nagalingum and Sydney Pierre.
Notably, Fong was absent from the last meeting of the Muvman Liberater’s political bureau, which was held on October 7.
During the meeting of the Alliance du Changement, Deven Nagalingum expressed his happiness at Fong’s presence, stating, “It’s great to see Ken Fong here.
One of our comrades felt disillusioned, even though he has contributed significantly to his party.”
In his remarks to the residents of Camp Levieux, Ken Fong spoke candidly about his motivations for getting involved in politics.
He emphasized that he does so not for personal gain, but “for the others.”
He went on to express his deep concern for the welfare of young people in his community, lamenting how many of his former students have turned to synthetic drugs, a situation he described as “tearing his heart apart.”
Fong also mentioned his connection to the political landscape by revealing that Soopramanien Kistnen, a former agent of the MSM party, is his brother-in-law.
He stated, “How can I, Ken Fong, support the Alliance Lepep in defending this government?
I must be able to look at myself in the mirror. I know you are pleading with me to return, but in life, there must be principles.
I held Jugnauth and his police accountable to uncover the truth.”
Additionally, he referred to Navin Ramgoolam’s pledge to uncover the circumstances surrounding the death of Kaya Kistnen, declaring that he had decided to place his trust in Ramgoolam.
Fong concluded by stating, “I will contribute to No. 19. I will work hard with the team that has been established here.”
