Resignation of Magistrate as Candidate in Upcoming Elections Sparks Speculation
Neeshal Kumar Jugnauth, a magistrate widely speculated to be a candidate in the upcoming general elections, resigned yesterday October 8, intensifying discussions about his potential political aspirations. He had been tipped as a possible candidate for constituency No. 6 (Grand-Baie-Poudre-d’Or), but recent events in Petit-Raffray have raised questions about these prospects.
The Jugnauth family had previously been mentioned in connection with potential candidates for the upcoming legislative elections, leading many to believe that Shavina Jugnauth, the daughter of Ashok Jugnauth, would be the one to run.
However, it is Neeshal Kumar Jugnauth, a cousin, who has chosen to step down from his judicial position.
Married to the daughter of Deputy Commissioner of Police Heman Jangi—who was appointed Senior Advisor to the police in September—Neeshal Kumar Jugnauth was promoted to Senior District Magistrate in February 2020.
He then served at the Intermediate Court, and until his resignation, he was assigned to the Financial Crimes Division of the same court, a specialized unit dealing with financial offences.
