‘Rann Nou Later’ Movement Protests Again in Côte-d’Or

This morning, October 3, the “Rann Nou Later” movement held another demonstration in Côte-d’Or, coinciding with the inauguration ceremony for new buildings of the Hindu Speaking Union and the Mauritius Tamil Cultural Centre Trust. Despite being invited as the guest of honor, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth did not attend the event, which garnered a notable police presence.
Members of “Rann Nou Later,” wearing placards around their necks, gathered at the site to voice their demands.
They are calling for the return of land that has been allocated to the Mauritius Tamil Cultural Centre in Réduit, rejecting the alternative land proposed to them in Côte-d’Or.
This is not the first time the group has taken to the streets; they previously staged a protest in the same area on August 27.
During that demonstration, four members, including Rajen Narsinghen and Devarajen Kanaksabee, were detained following a heavy-handed police intervention.
