Police Pursues Leads in Fatal Assault of Nooreza Abdoolah
The community of Vallée-Pitot, located in Port-Louis, is reeling from the shocking murder of 46-year-old Noorezah Abdoolah, a mother of two, whose lifeless body was discovered in her home on Wednesday, October 2. Abdoolah worked as a health care assistant at Dr. A. G. Jeetoo Hospital, and her brutal death has sent ripples of fear and grief through the neighborhood.
The Crime Investigation Division (CID) of Port-Louis North, along with the Major Crimes Investigation Team (MCIT), is actively pursuing leads to identify the culprits behind this heinous act.
An autopsy conducted by Chief Police Medical Officer Sudesh Kumar Gungadin confirmed that the cause of death was due to neck compression.
Authorities suspect that the crime was a robbery gone wrong. The police have circulated images obtained from surveillance cameras showing two individuals who were seen loitering in the area prior to the attack.
On the day of the incident, Abdoolah’s son, 22-year-old Nahiir Ackbar Abdoolah, received an alarming call from a neighbor just before 1 PM, warning him that intruders were in their home.
Upon his arrival, he sadly discovered his mother lying motionless on the floor near the refrigerator in the dining room.
“I was at work when they called to tell me that thieves had entered our house. I rushed home and found my mother on the ground,” he recounted, visibly shaken by the traumatic scene.
Tragically, the assault occurred in front of Noorezah’s 13-year-old daughter, who witnessed the violence.
“My daughter saw how her mother was being beaten and there was a lot of blood on her neck. They hit her on the head.
My daughter ran to the bedroom and locked herself in. She’s traumatized and unable to speak,” explained Ackbar Abdoolah, who was at a construction site in Pailles during the attack.
At the time, his wife had taken a month off to assist their daughter with her school exams.
In a desperate plea, Ackbar urged the public to help locate the attackers.
“Anyone who has information about these two individuals, please report them to the police. We need to catch these criminals,” he insisted, hoping for swift justice.
The police have identified the two suspects, who had allegedly visited Noorezah’s home on Saturday, September 28, demanding Rs 10,000 under the pretense that a man named Yousouf owed them money.
“They came asking for Rs 10,000, saying it was for Yousouf. That person is no longer around,” Ackbar detailed, expressing his outrage.
Local residents have also reported seeing the pair in the vicinity over the past few days, with some suggesting they were looking for scrap metal.
Moreover, Ackbar affirmed that his daughter recognized one of the assailants.
“She said they were the same people who came to the house on Saturday,” he noted, adding to the mounting concerns over safety in Vallée-Pitot, an area increasingly plagued by crime.
“Robbers from other areas are coming here. A neighbor was recently attacked and beaten. Thankfully, he survived,” he remarked.
In the ongoing investigation into Noorezah Abdoolah’s tragic murder, the police are intensifying their search for the two suspects.
The community remains on edge as law enforcement officials continue to piece together what happened leading up to the fatal attack.
Noorezah’s family and friends are calling for justice, and the police have deployed a helicopter to aid in the search for the suspects, who are believed to have fled into nearby mountainous areas.
The autopsy results have added urgency and a chilling confirmation to the violent nature of this crime, with authorities emphasizing their commitment to solving this case.
