A domestic accident on Tuesday afternoon, October 1, has left a four-year-old boy in critical condition after suffering severe burns to multiple parts of his body. The incident occurred when a container of hot oil accidentally spilled onto the child while his mother was preparing cookies in their home on North Island, part of the Agalega archipelago.

According to initial reports, the accident caused immediate panic for the child’s mother, who quickly sought help to rush her son to the hospital.

Eyewitnesses described the boy’s condition as extremely serious as medical staff provided him with first aid at the scene.

The administration officers of the archipelago quickly coordinated with authorities in Mauritius to arrange an emergency medical evacuation for the young boy.

A Dornier aircraft landed in Agalega shortly before midnight and departed around 1:30 AM on Wednesday, October 2.

Upon arrival in Mauritius at approximately 5:15 AM, the boy, accompanied by his mother, was taken directly to the Burns Unit of Victoria Hospital.

As of the latest updates, he is reportedly in stable condition and out of danger.

Word of the child’s dire situation spread rapidly in Agalega on Tuesday, October 1, leading to an outpouring of solidarity from the community.

Residents quickly rallied to support the child’s family, with some starting a prayer chain in hopes of securing his recovery.

“A terrible misfortune has struck, and it has affected us all. When we saw the extent of the burns on the child’s body, it was incredibly distressing,” explained a local father to Le Mauricien.

Many residents expressed relief when the Dornier landed at around 11:30 PM.

A small crowd gathered near the airstrip, although they were not permitted to enter the airport grounds and instead watched from a distance as the child and his mother boarded the plane.

“As a show of solidarity, the community stayed until the plane departed at 1:30 AM. We were all united in this difficult time for the parents,” he added.

At present, very few details have emerged regarding the circumstances surrounding the accident.

“The mother is in great distress, and we didn’t want to ask her too many questions to avoid overwhelming her.

What matters most to us is that the child recovers quickly,” relatives of the family stated.

Recently, the residents of the archipelago faced another shocking incident when a 13-year-old girl ingested a large quantity of medication.

Similarly, an emergency flight was arranged to facilitate her transfer to Mauritius for more extensive medical care.

In the wake of these two tragic events, many community members are calling for the presence of a psychologist and social workers to support the families affected.

They are urgently appealing to the relevant authorities in Mauritius for assistance.

“There are many social changes occurring in the archipelago, and it’s important for residents to have professional support to cope with these changes,” residents emphasized in their plea.
