Oliver Thomas Announces He Will Not Run in Upcoming Elections
Oliver Thomas has officially confirmed that he will not be a candidate in the upcoming elections. This announcement follows a report by the weekly publication, Week-end, dated September 29, which highlighted that Guito Lepoigneur of the PMSD and David Utile, the mayor of Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill, from the ML party, have secured the coveted opportunity to participate in constituency No. 20.
In a statement posted on his Facebook account on Monday, September 30, Thomas, who is the political nominee for the MSM and the Chairperson of the Nelson Mandela Centre for African Culture Trust Fund, revealed that he learned about these developments after a meeting with Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.
Thomas had been engaged in a competitive race against Vincent Seetaram, the press secretary for the Minister of Transport, for a candidacy in the Beau-Bassin/Petite-Rivière constituency (No. 20).
In his Facebook post, he reflected on his contributions to the community, stating, “I leave you with a track record marked by concrete actions, such as providing assistance to those in difficulty during heavy rains, lobbying for the establishment of a health trail in Coromandel, repairing pipes, and addressing various complaints.
All of this was achieved without being elected and without any remuneration as a deputy, solely out of passion and commitment.”
He went on to express his intention to focus on his family for now, saying he is plannning to return “stronger than ever” in the future.
It is worth noting that during the last legislative elections, Oliver Thomas ran as an independent candidate in constituency No. 20, where he received 3,890 votes out of a total of 32,340.
