Vikram Hurdoyal, once a prominent figure in Mauritian politics, is back in the political arena after previously stepping away. Many will remember him as the minister who was ousted from his position, subsequently resigned as a Member of Parliament, and declared that he would no longer participate in politics—especially not with the Mouvement Socialiste Militants (MSM).

However, not long after making these promises, Hurdoyal was seen actively campaigning in his constituency, urging residents to attend a May Day meeting for the MSM.

This unexpected turn raised questions about his political allegiance and intentions.

For a brief period, there was speculation that Hurdoyal might be eyeing a candidacy with the Muvman Patriot Morisien (MPM), a party allied with the MSM, following his earlier dismissal by the MSM.

Yet, just days later, he surprised many by announcing that he remained a member of the MSM.

This shift has led to further intrigue regarding Hurdoyal’s motivations. Did he change his mind once again, or was he influenced by external pressures?

As we await further developments, one thing seems certain: with Hurdoyal at the center, political drama is never far behind.

Currently, he is actively positioning himself as a staunch MSM supporter in the constituency of Montagne-Blanche-Grande-Rivière-Sud-Est.

Hurdoyal has even started to target the candidate expected to succeed him, revealing an intense and potentially contentious electoral battle ahead.

In fact, l’Express obtained a message where he openly criticized an individual for taking a photo with a minister, illustrating the fierce competition within the party.
