PM Promises Increased Pension & Free Private Medications
In a statement made at the International Swami Vivekananda Centre in Pailles on Sunday, September 29, 2024, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth announced significant reforms aimed at benefiting the elderly in Mauritius.
He declared that, if he is re-elected, the old-age pension would be raised to Rs 20,000.
Speaking to a group of senior citizens, Jugnauth took the opportunity to highlight the achievements of his current government while contrasting them with the previous administration led by Navin Ramgoolam.
He emphasized the progress made under his leadership and reiterated his commitment to the welfare of older Mauritians.
Additionally, Jugnauth revealed plans to provide free medications in the private sector for individuals who obtain prescriptions after seeing a private doctor.
“When you receive a prescription for medication after your visit to a private physician, those medications will be available to you at no cost,” he stated, pledging further support for the healthcare needs of the population.
