U.S. Secretary of State Discusses Partnership with Mauritius
On September 24, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken held a phone conversation with Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth to discuss the robust partnership between the United States and Mauritius. The discussion focused on their shared commitment to enhancing security and prosperity in the region.
According to a statement released by the U.S. State Department, Blinken and Jugnauth also addressed ongoing formal talks between the United Kingdom and Mauritius regarding Diego Garcia and the surrounding area.
This region is home to the U.S.-UK joint military base, playing a “crucial role” in ensuring security in the Indo-Pacific region and globally.
During the conversation, Blinken expressed strong support for the progress being made in the negotiations between the UK and Mauritius.
He also emphasized the importance of continued cooperation with Mauritius on a wide range of bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues, as noted by the State Department spokesperson.
