Authorities Ignored Mother’s Plea; Daughter now Fights for Life After Stabbing
In a tragic turn of events, a mother from Baie-du-Tombeau is left devastated as her 15-year-old daughter battles for her life after a brutal stabbing incident. The attack occurred on a Monday afternoon, September 23, shortly after the girl left school, leading to her emergency admission at SSRN hospital in Pamplemousses.
The young victim has sustained life-threatening injuries, including a perforated lung and severe wounds to her heart.
Following extensive surgery, she is currently in a critical condition relying on artificial respiration as she fights for survival.
The assailant has been identified as 18-year-old Ericsson Cupidon, known as “Sinois,” who resides close to the victim.
Witnesses report that the attack took place in the street at St-Malo, Baie-du-Tombeau, as the girl was on her way home from college.
According to the victim’s mother, Cupidon had been harassing her daughter for some time and had not accepted their break-up.
Despite her repeated efforts to seek assistance from local authorities—including the police and the Child Development Unit (CDU)—she feels that her concerns were ignored.
“I knocked on the doors of several authorities to find a solution to this problem. My daughter was living in fear, afraid to go to school or step outside alone,” she expressed.
Describing the day of the incident, the mother recounted, “While preparing dinner, I grew increasingly worried as it approached 4:30 PM and my daughter still hadn’t returned from her school in Triolet.
I asked her older sister to call her, and just then, someone arrived to inform us that she had been attacked.
My eldest rushed out and found her lying in a pool of blood. Thanks to some volunteers, she was quickly taken to the hospital.
She couldn’t even drink a glass of water after school; as they wheeled her into surgery, she told me not to cry and to take care of myself.”
A police source confirmed that the minor had been under the care of a psychologist since 2022 due to behavioral concerns, but the sessions were terminated last year when her behavior showed improvement.
In the wake of this incident, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare has committed to providing additional psychological support to the victim and her family and has initiated an investigation into the matter.
Ericsson Cupidon was arrested by Port-Louis Nord police for attempted murder the following day. Investigators recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack.
He is expected to be charged in court today, with the investigation supervised by Police Superintendents Bansoodeb, Badal, Ramsawock, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Oozeer.
