ICT Expert: “Cloud Infrastructure is Far More Secure Than Many People Think”
Clarel Constance, a pioneer in information and communication technology (ICT) services and training in Mauritius and the surrounding region, has recently been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FRCI. With nearly 30 years of experience, Constance has been instrumental in the company’s growth since joining FRCI, expanding the workforce from 17 to over 85 professionals and overseeing its expansion into markets in Madagascar, Africa, New Caledonia, and Europe.
In a recent interview, Constance discussed his vision for the company following his new appointment, indicating there will be no immediate shift in operations.
“At this stage, we are focusing on consolidating our operations to enhance robustness and efficiency,” he stated.
Additionally, FRCI is exploring new growth avenues through partnerships, entering new markets, and reimagining many of its existing offerings.
FRCI’s software development division is diverse. The company has created an enterprise resource planning (ERP) application along with various peripheral applications aimed at field agents, e-payments, invoice digitization, and digital loyalty cards, among others.
Furthermore, FRCI develops websites, intranets, and numerous applications and add-ons integrated with Microsoft 365, with most applications available in mobile app format.
The software is designed to serve multiple sectors and cater to a wide array of local and international clients.
When asked how Mauritius can enhance its competitiveness in software development, Constance emphasized the need to carve out a niche rather than compete directly with Asia’s larger development firms.
This involves focusing on specific markets, fostering collaboration among local stakeholders, revamping training programs for developers, and establishing and maintaining a network of partners for sales initiatives.
He elaborated on the benefits of successful projects for clients: “A successful project brings multiple advantages.
Employees experience increased speed and reduced stress during peak times, resulting in higher job satisfaction and engagement.
Clients benefit from quicker processing times, better value for money, and improved choices.
Ultimately, this can enable them to pass cost savings onto their customers. Suppliers gain greater precision and efficiency in order management and invoicing.
Investors and shareholders see enhanced company valuation, improved profits, and potentially stronger cash flow.”
Regarding the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on FRCI’s growth ambitions, Constance noted that AI is becoming increasingly accessible and embedded in various software applications.
FRCI leverages AI both as an integrated feature in its products and as a tool to accelerate and secure software development.
The incorporation of AI enhances the relevance of several software solutions and services, driving growth in both market size and volume.
Constance also addressed concerns related to cybersecurity and data protection within cloud infrastructures.
“Despite common perceptions, cloud infrastructures are significantly more secure than many believe,” he assured.
However, he acknowledged that the effectiveness of cloud services and data is contingent on accessibility from various devices and by individuals or systems with an average level of learning.
“All these factors can present vulnerabilities that require constant security measures and monitoring at multiple levels.”
As FRCI increasingly positions itself as a global player, Constance highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships for supporting international expansion.
Currently, the company’s primary markets include the Indian Ocean region, select African countries, Europe, and French-speaking Pacific territories.
“There is still much to explore, and we are looking at other territories. Our focus in partnerships is to collaborate where each party can leverage their respective strengths and expertise to bring compelling offerings to our target markets,” he explained.
Established 35 years ago, FRCI has emerged as a leader in the ICT sector, providing comprehensive services such as software development and sales, cloud infrastructure, website development, and training.
The company has garnered numerous local and regional awards from Microsoft for the exceptional quality of its services, underscored by its partnerships with major industry players like Microsoft, Adobe, and AudioCodes.
FRCI’s success is also credited to its dynamic team of professionals based in Madagascar and other countries.
This international team enhances FRCI’s global aspirations by delivering seamless ICT solutions across various geographical markets, allowing the company to quickly adapt to regional demands while maintaining high service standards.
