Is Primerose Obeegadoo on the verge of receiving a 60-year lease for a state-owned parcel of land in the capital? This issue has sparked significant debate as the current government term draws to a close. Obeegadoo, who is known for organizing the Miss Mauritius competition and is the mother of Deputy Prime Minister Steven Obeegadoo, reportedly has plans to develop a retirement home on a plot exceeding 1,800 square meters located on Monseigneur Leen Street.

The proposed project, valued at an estimated Rs 400 million, has attracted scrutiny due to the unusual speed at which it appears to be progressing through the government and Cabinet channels.

As concerns mount about the implications of such a quick decision-making process, the public and stakeholders are demanding transparency.

Despite numerous attempts by RadioPlus to obtain a statement from Primerose Obeegadoo regarding the project, she has yet to respond to our inquiries.

The situation is remaining a topic of significant interest as it highlights issues surrounding government dealings and the allocation of public resources.

Steven Obeegadoo Responds:

Steven Obeegadoo has spoken out regarding his mother, Primerose Obeegadoo, who has been granted a 60-year lease on a state-owned plot of land.

In an interview with RadioPlus on Wednesday, September 18, he stated, “My mother, Primerose Obeegadoo, followed all the necessary procedures.

She simply requested to change the focus of the project from educational to social.”

This statement comes amid controversy surrounding this matter, which has garnered considerable attention as the current government approaches the end of its term.

The Deputy Prime Minister clarified that the case was managed by the Ministry of Housing without his involvement.

He aimed to explain why the matter was later submitted to the Cabinet for further consideration.
