Tensions Rise Amid Salary Negotiations at Air Mauritius
Air Mauritius employees are voicing their frustration as salary negotiations continue without resolution. On Monday, September 16, Charles Cartier, the CEO of Air Mauritius, held another meeting with union representatives to discuss the ongoing negotiations.
According to Radhakrishna Sadien, a spokesperson for the unions, the proposals put forward so far have not met the staff’s expectations.
Employees felt that the suggested salary adjustments are inadequate and reflect a lack of respect for their contributions.
They had anticipated a significant pay increase following months of discussions, Sadien shared during an interview on RadioPlus, September 16, afternoon.
Defi Media’s sources within Air Mauritius indicated that negotiations are still ongoing.
However, the aviation industry is operating on very thin profit margins, and many companies are struggling due to significant social burdens.
This predicament is exemplified by the challenges faced by South African Airways and Air Austral.
In 2022, Air Mauritius implemented a 16% salary increase for its employees, but it appeared that the current proposals are falling short of satisfying staff expectations amid the ongoing negotiations.
