A new political formation has been officially announced, aimed at steering the country in a different direction. Jack Bismohun, president of the Union Sociale Mauricienne (USM), introduced the Rasambleman Pour Lavansman Moris (RPLM) at a press conference, alongside Dr. Vasant Bunwaree, a former Minister of Finance.

Bismohun highlighted that Mauritius is currently facing significant social challenges, primarily stemming from the drug epidemic, the urgent need for recognizing meritocracy, and the fight against communalism.

These issues have exacerbated a lack of self-sufficiency, resulting in serious food insecurity and hampering the population’s ability to lead healthy lives.

He emphasized that the new government, if elected, will prioritize improving the conditions of small farmers, fishermen, and livestock breeders.

“By addressing these sectors, we can curb inflation and reduce public debt. We will implement concrete measures that will not be mere election promises,” he asserted.

Bismohun also criticized the current government’s focus on young people aged 18 to 25, specifically its initiative to provide free internet access to this age group.

He pointed out a significant gap for those aged 15 to 18, urging that all youths should be considered in these initiatives.

He warned that the government’s strategies seem more aimed at gaining electoral favor rather than addressing the needs of the wider youth demographic.

The political landscape is currently being framed as a choice between major figures, specifically Pravind Jugnauth and Navin Ramgoolam, with observers suggesting that this narrative is too simplistic.

Bismohun claimed, “We are the true unifiers in this political environment.”

Dr. Bunwaree, during his remarks, expressed that the goal of the press conference was to initiate a rekindling of Mauritian politics.

“People are seeking a new approach to governance. Our country is home to a diverse population, yet there is a constant sense of anxiety.

This motivated us to establish this new political entity, represented by the color turquoise,” he explained.

He emphasized that living in fear is unacceptable, particularly for the elderly who live alone, and expressed concern about the lack of respect for teachers within educational institutions.

To tackle safety issues, he proposed a system for monitoring residential areas while advocating for a stable currency policy.

Moreover, Bunwaree highlighted the need to empower private sector employees by allowing them to participate in company ownership.

He also proposed an ambitious initiative to provide air conditioning sourced from marine resources to the population, framing it as a sustainable solution to the growing demand for cooling systems.
