CTSP Raises Alarm Over Lobbying Efforts by Employer Organizations
Reeaz Chuttoo, the president of the Confederation of Public and Private Sector Workers (CTSP), held a press conference yesterday where he warned against what he described as “false propaganda and intense lobbying” between employer organizations and the government.
Chuttoo expressed his concern that some business leaders are believing that employees earning salaries above those specified in the Remuneration Orders (RO) are ineligible for salary adjustments.
In his statements, Chuttoo criticized the “unreasonable demands” from employers to deny salary increases in situations where a collective agreement has already been established.
He pointed out that the Employment Relations Act clearly states that existing collective agreements must be revised when there are changes in circumstances.
Additionally, the CTSP president expressed satisfaction with a recent meeting involving his union, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, and the Minister of Labor regarding the introduction of the concept of Labour Contractors into legislation.
He noted, “The government has committed to ensuring that there will be no Labour Contractors and has agreed to initiate discussions on sectoral negotiations.”
Looking ahead, the CTSP is planning a series of activities on October 7 to commemorate World Day for Decent Work, emphasizing the importance of fair and equitable working conditions.
