A counterfeit currency case has emerged following a report at a snack shop located in Grand La Fouche Corail, commonly known as Baz Tipik. The establishment is run by a 31-year-old independent entrepreneur residing in Dans Coco, who filed a complaint with the Plaine-Corail police after discovering two Rs 1,000 bills suspected to be counterfeit.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 31, 2024. On that day, the snack shop manager and his employees carried out their regular duties, opening the shop at 8:00 AM and closing at 10:00 PM. At the end of the day, the manager handed over Rs 3,300—comprised of three Rs 1,000 bills and three Rs 100 bills—to an employee for settling purchases made during the week.

On Tuesday, September 3, the employee received a phone call from a person to whom she had previously given the money, expressing concerns about the authenticity of one of the Rs 1,000 bills.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, the snack shop manager instructed the employee to retrieve the suspected bill and bring it to the police for further investigation.

The following day, September 4, the employee informed the manager that, in fact, two Rs 1,000 bills were suspected of being counterfeit, not just one.

Acting on her employer’s instructions, she handed over both bills to the police on September 5, 2024, around 9:00 AM.

The counterfeit notes, bearing serial numbers BT377112 and CB870478, were sealed in the presence of the complainant and are now held by the police as evidence for their investigation.

The case escalated rapidly when, on September 6, 2024, Inspector Jeean and his team, under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Madhow, arrested two suspects believed to be connected to this illegal operation.

The two apprehended individuals are Ronaldo Ramdally, 22, from Citron Donis, and Willio Louis, 20, from Maréchal.

Additionally, another suspect, who owns the residence where materials used for producing counterfeit bills were found, managed to flee during the police raid and is currently being actively pursued.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the origins of the counterfeit currency and explore any further implications related to this case.
