Road Closures & Detours for Père Laval Pilgrimage Effective September 8
Starting at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 8, numerous roads will be closed to traffic in anticipation of the pilgrimage to the tomb of Father Laval. These closures will remain in effect until 5:00 AM on Monday, September 9. The police have issued a statement to alert motorists about the planned traffic restrictions.
The following routes will be affected:
- Père Laval Alley: Closed from the traffic light leading to the Father Laval Church.
- Intersection of Route des Pamplemousses and Riche Terre: Closed extending to Ducray Street in Sainte Croix.
- Nicolay Road: Closed from the Abercrombie roundabout to Militaire Road, near the former British American Tobacco building.
- Sainte Marie Street: Closed in Sainte Croix, along with side streets from the intersection of Le Cornu Street to Piéton Père Laval.
- Piéton Père Laval Street: All side streets at the intersection with Route des Pamplemousses will also be closed, extending to the Father Laval Church.
Additionally, between 5:00 AM and noon on Sunday, September 8, Père Laval Alley will operate as a one-way street from Route des Pamplemousses to the Father Laval Church in Sainte Croix.
The same applies to Cocoterie Road, Ducray Road, and Route des Pamplemousses leading to the Vallée des Prêtres intersection.
It is also important to note that public buses will be rerouted on Sunday, 8 September, to accommodate the pilgrimage and traffic changes.
Motorists and public transport users are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly.
