CEB's Director General Earns Rs 285,000 Monthly Salary

In a recent written response submitted to Parliament, Joe Lesjongard, the Minister of Energy and Public Services, disclosed the terms of the contract for Rajden Chowdharry, the Director General of the Central Electricity Board (CEB). This information came in response to a question raised by Patrick Assirvaden, the President of the Labour Party and Member of Parliament for La Caverne/Phœnix (No 15).

The inquiry sought clarification regarding the working conditions of the senior official, particularly focusing on the date of his appointment and the financial details of his contract.

Lesjongard explained that Rajden Chowdharry was appointed in accordance with Section 6 of the Central Electricity Board Act.

He officially started his role on April 12, 2024, under a two-year contract. According to the details provided, Chowdharry receives a monthly base salary of Rs 285,000, along with annual increases that are approved by the CEB’s board of directors.

At the end of each contract year, Chowdharry is eligible for a severance payment equivalent to two months’ salary, amounting to 16.6% of his annual income.

This payment serves as a substitute for the pension typically allotted to contract employees.

In addition to his salary, the Director General of the CEB is provided with a company car, complete with a chauffeur.

The vehicle has a maximum engine capacity of 2,500 c.c., and it can be used for both official and personal travel. Additionally, an allowance for fuel is provided, in accordance with existing regulations.
