SAA Hosts Workshop to Boost Nigerian Market Presence in Mauritius
South African Airways (SAA) recently organized a workshop for travel agents in Lagos, Nigeria, aiming to enhance its market presence and promote Mauritius as an attractive tourist destination for Nigerian travelers.
Kemi Leke-Bamtefa, the Country Manager for SAA, emphasized the airline’s commitment to supporting its travel agent partners, particularly smaller agencies that have developed alongside the airline over the past two decades.
During her address, she encouraged travel agents to collaborate with SAA and Mauritius to improve business outcomes.
“South African Airways has operated in Nigeria for over 20 years, during which time many smaller travel agencies have emerged as our partners,” Leke-Bamtefa stated.
“We have established strong partnerships with the top 10 to 20 agencies, but we also value our relationships with smaller, family-run agencies. Their support means a lot to us, which is why we are here today.”
Leke-Bamtefa highlighted SAA’s membership in the Star Alliance network, which enabled seamless cooperation with partner airlines.
She urged travel agents to work closely with SAA and tourism partners in Mauritius, promising the provision of essential tools to facilitate smoother business operations.
Representing Mauritius, Visham Carpen, General Manager of Maurijet, showcased the island as an ideal African getaway.
He noted the visa-free travel policy for Nigerian citizens and underscored the appeal of Mauritius’ stunning beaches and resorts.
Carpen encouraged travel agents to collaborate with local tourism boards to better serve their clients’ needs.
In addition to promoting Mauritius, SAA announced plans to increase its flights from Lagos to Johannesburg, expanding from three to five flights per week, effective late October 2024.
The airline also shared exciting news about its expanded global reach, including new routes to Perth, Australia, and São Paulo, Brazil, which will be accessible through its extensive network and code-share partnerships.
By highlighting Mauritius as a compelling travel destination and providing valuable insights to travel agents, South African Airways aims to solidify its position in the Nigerian market.
