The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Me Rashid Ahmine, emphasized the need for a more robust legal framework to effectively combat international crimes. His remarks came during a symposium hosted by the Wayamo Foundation in collaboration with the DPP’s office, held at the Labourdonnais Hotel in Caudan, Port-Louis, on the morning of September 2.

During the event, DPP Ahmine highlighted that Mauritius is a signatory to the Criminal International Courts Act.

This agreement will enable country to prosecute foreign criminals, including pirates operating in the Indian Ocean.

He underlined the importance of reflecting on and revising our criminal law to enhance our capacity to tackle such serious international offenses.

The symposium brought together experts in the field to discuss various aspects of international criminal law and its application in Mauritius, aiming to foster a comprehensive dialogue on improving legal measures against transnational crime.
