End of the Run for Notorious Fraudster After 2-Year Manhunt
After two years of relentless pursuit, the officers of the Force Criminal Intelligence Unit (FCIU) in the North have successfully apprehended a notorious Con Man responsible for more than fifty scams across the country. The 47-year-old man, who was unemployed and homeless, was arrested on Friday, August 30, after evading capture since September 2022.
His time on the run concluded in Yemen, Rivière-Noire, following hours of meticulous surveillance.
Virram Deeloosing Ramsaha had developed a well-practiced modus operandi.
Using a stolen checkbook, he placed orders for goods from businesses across the island, always opting to pay by check.
His victims, often unsuspecting, fell prey to his deception, completely unaware of his true identity.
Among his most significant scams was a masterful con against a sugar company in the South, where he ordered Rs 600,000 worth of watermelons and potatoes, along with various other items ranging from fruits and rice packets to beverages.
The pattern was consistent: he would place an order, pay with a check, and when the sellers deposited the checks, they were invariably rejected by the bank.
In total, he racked up a large number of victims, most of whom never dared to file a complaint.
This transient fraudster also employed a stolen Business Registration Number belonging to another individual to project a more credible image.
Operating throughout the entire island made it difficult for authorities to identify and capture him.
Ramsaha’s arrest came when FCIU officers, acting on credible information, intercepted a red Hyundai vehicle in Yemen, Rivière-Noire.
Behind the wheel was the sought-after man. When confronted by police about his identity, he confessed candidly, stating, “Sir, I know I’ve been wanted for two years, and I admit that I’ve been using a stolen checkbook to make several fraudulent payments across the country.”
Under pressure, he further admitted to being the mastermind behind numerous similar scams, having amassed hundreds of thousands of rupees in goods.
Following his arrest, he was taken to the Trou-aux-Biches police station for further investigation.
