Suspected Mpox Case: 20-Year-Old Woman in Isolation

A suspected case of Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, has been reported to health authorities. The case involves a 20-year-old woman who developed a lesion on her abdomen, a symptom that could be linked to this rare viral disease. In response to this potentially concerning situation, the Ministry of Health and Wellness acted swiftly to assess the matter.

The patient underwent an initial PCR test on Friday, August 30; however, the results were inconclusive.

As a precautionary measure, a second PCR test has been scheduled for Saturday, August 31. While awaiting the definitive results, the young woman has been placed in isolation at the A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis.

This isolation is in line with current health protocols aimed at preventing any potential spread of the disease.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the patient is in stable condition and is under medical observation.

“She is in isolation as a precautionary measure,” stated a health ministry representative. Isolation is a standard procedure for suspected cases of contagious diseases to safeguard both the patient and the wider community.

Vigilance is crucial as health authorities work to manage any potential outbreak of Mpox in the country.
