Oasis de Paix Transforms into Vocational Training Center in Pointe-aux-Sables
Pointe-aux-Sables has welcomed a significant development in its community with the NGO Oasis de Paix officially transitioning into a vocational training center. This transition was ceremonially launched on Wednesday, August 28, at the organization’s headquarters located along the coastal road, with the vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, and the president of the National Social Inclusion Foundation (NSIF), Menon Munien, in attendance.
Founded in 2006 by Father Henri Souchon and Monique Leung, Oasis de Paix has been dedicated to supporting vulnerable children through basic literacy and numeracy education, along with vocational training.
With this new initiative, the Oasis de Paix Educational and Vocational Training Centre aims to offer opportunities to a larger number of youth from underprivileged backgrounds, particularly those facing academic challenges, including participants of the Bright Up Programme.
This expansion is made possible by the collaboration and support from the NSIF, which will provide necessary funding and resources.
“Through Oasis de Paix, children will have the opportunity to complete their NC1 and NC2 qualifications, after which they can join the Bright Up Programme, receive a stipend, and begin working.
The government, with the support of the NGO, is committed to ensuring that no child leaves without acquiring tangible skills,” emphasized Minister Dookun-Luchoomun.
Menon Munien expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting its goal to assist as many individuals as possible. “We will do everything we can to provide all existing facilities to those in need,” he said.
Amédée Poupard, president of Oasis de Paix, noted that the center is designed to provide a safe haven for children who might otherwise be living on the streets and vulnerable to various risks.
The center also focuses on equipping students with the skills necessary to make them employable in the job market.
Parents interested in enrolling their children in the new vocational training programs are invited to visit the center on Thursday and Friday.
During these open house days, they will have the opportunity to explore the available facilities and learn more about the enrollment process for courses set to begin in January 2025.
