Dr. Cheong’s Wife Wants His Name Off Hospital
Concerns are growing about the future of the Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq, especially following the opening of the SAJ Hospital in Constance, Flacq. The family of Dr. Bruno Cheong, who passed away during the Covid-19 pandemic, has voiced their discontent regarding the use of his name for what they describe as an empty establishment.
During an interview on Radio Plus on Thursday afternoon, August 29, Sandra Cheong, the widow of the late doctor, expressed her desire for her husband’s name to be removed from the building, which she deems outdated and whose future appears uncertain.
On the other hand, health authorities have stated that the hospital remains operational, despite the transfer of several services—including dental care, Ayurvedic treatments, and the regional health department—to other facilities.
It is worth noting that the Flacq Hospital has borne the name of Dr. Bruno Cheong since 2020, in honor of his dedication as he treated the first known Covid-19 patient before succumbing to the virus himself.
