Cold Weather Alert: Keep Your Blankets Handy
Residents of Mauritius are advised to keep their blankets and warm clothing close as temperatures are expected to drop significantly this week, particularly until Thursday, 29 August. This forecast from the Vacoas Meteorological Station reported that a strong anticyclone situated south of the Mascarenes is pushing a mass of cold air over the island.
In the central plateau, morning temperatures are anticipated to range from 12°C to 15°C, while coastal areas will see slightly warmer temperatures around 17°C.
However, the presence of strong winds will make it feel significantly colder, a phenomenon referred to by meteorologists as the “wind chill factor.”
Last week, maximum temperatures in some coastal regions were recorded between 28°C and 29°C, but this week, residents can expect a drop to around 25°C.
Additionally, the meteorological service is set to issue a new bulletin today at around 10 a.m. regarding warnings for strong swells.
While indications suggesting that conditions will begin to improve today, August 26, the sea will remain very rough outside the reefs and within the lagoon.
Stay informed and dress warmly as we navigate through these chilly days ahead.
