Flic-en-Flac: Engineer Confesses, South African Woman Murdered

In a shocking turn of events, Pooryavirsingh, a 29-year-old computer engineer, has confessed to the cold-blooded murder of 29-year-old Zaliia Shanigula, a South African national. During an interrogation that took place Wednesday August 21, Pooryavirsingh, a resident of Quatre-Bornes, revealed that he had been in a romantic relationship with Shanigula for several years, having first met during their studies.
However, upon discovering that she had allegedly cheated on him and was involved with other partners, his jealousy and anger led to tragic consequences.
On Saturday morning, August 17, Pooryavirsingh picked Shanigula up from Flic-en-Flac, transporting her to the highlands of Plaines-Wilhems.
A heated argument erupted between the pair during the drive, culminating in Pooryavirsingh stabbing Shanigula multiple times.
Realizing the gravity of his actions, he made the decision to conceal her body by burying it in a forested area in La Marie.

Following his confession, Pooryavirsingh guided officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Flic-en-Flac to the burial site last night.
Several police units, including the Central CID and the Special Mobile Force, were dispatched to the location.
There, investigators unearthed a female body exhibiting signs of severe trauma, which they suspect to be that of Shanigula.
An autopsy is scheduled to confirm the cause of death and to officially identify the victim.
The investigation into Shanigula’s disappearance had commenced earlier in the week, sparked by concerns from a 41-year-old Russian friend who reported that she had lost contact with the South African woman, who was on holiday in Mauritius since June 2 and was staying on Avenue Goëland.
The friend informed police that Shanigula, dressed in a white and blue dress and carrying a handbag, left her apartment around 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 17, but failed to return.
The pair was scheduled to leave Mauritius for Madagascar on September 1.
Investigators interviewed the owner of Shanigula’s apartment, who claimed to have seen her getting into a blue Toyota.
Further inquiries revealed that the vehicle was registered to an investment company, leading CID officers, under the command of Sergeant Ramsurrun, to apprehend three individuals in connection with the case.
Among the captives was a 24-year-old man from Castel, who admitted to being in Flic-en-Flac on Saturday but denied any involvement in Shanigula’s disappearance.
Similarly, a 31-year-old director of a real estate agency also claimed no connection to the case. Initially, Pooryavirsingh maintained that he had dropped Shanigula off in the parking lot of a consulting company in Forest-Side around 1:15 PM before leaving alone.
However, during subsequent questioning by CID officers, he ultimately confessed to the murder.
The CID conducted an inspection of the parking lot where Shanigula was allegedly dropped off, only to discover that there were no surveillance cameras in the area.
As part of the investigation, the police have seized the vehicle used to transport Shanigula for forensic examination by the Scene of Crime Office.
Additionally, the three suspects were required to surrender their mobile phones for scrutiny to determine if there were any suspicious communications, though they were later released with instructions to remain available for further questioning.
Pooryavirsingh is expected to appear in court for formal charges of murder, pending the completion of the investigation.
