Speaker’s Official Visit: India’s Support Sought for National Assembly Digital Transformation
From August 16 to 18, Speaker of the National Assembly Adrien Duval undertook an official visit to India, accompanied by Urmeelah Devi Ramchurn, the National Assembly clerk, and Saseeta Rakha-Ramsahye, the Digital Services and Parliamentary Broadcasting Manager.
During the trip, Duval held meetings with Indian officials to discuss potential support from India in the digital transformation of the Mauritian National Assembly.
A significant focus of the discussions was the modernization of parliamentary systems through digital initiatives.
In his meeting with Om Birla, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Duval emphasized the necessity of adapting legislative bodies to the advancements of new technologies and artificial intelligence.
He articulated his commitment to developing a digital strategy aimed at modernizing the Mauritian National Assembly.
Om Birla expressed his endorsement of this initiative and assured the cooperation of the Lok Sabha in supporting the transformation efforts.
The two leaders also highlighted the importance of parliamentary exchanges as a means of reinforcing bilateral relations. They agreed to foster cooperation that would lead to shared peace and prosperity.
Additionally, Duval extended an invitation to Om Birla to visit the National Assembly of Mauritius.
During his stay in India, Duval also met with Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the Indian Minister of External Affairs, and the Director of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, further establishing diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations.
