NHDC Launches Construction of 126 Housing Units in Wooton
In a significant step towards providing adequate housing for all citizens, the government has initiated the construction of 126 new housing units in Wooton, Curepipe. This project has been financed by the Saudi Development Fund and aims to address the urgent need for decent housing in the community.
These future homes will cover an area of approximately 70 square meters and will be equipped with modern amenities, ensuring accessibility for individuals with reduced mobility.
During the ceremonial ground-breaking event, Minister of Land and Housing Steven Obeegadoo emphasized the critical importance of this project in enhancing the stability of Mauritian families, particularly the elderly and those with disabilities.
The residential complex will also feature communal spaces, including a children’s playground, a jogging track, and a multipurpose hall, promoting social interaction among future residents.
The construction of the Wooton complex is expected to be completed by June 2025.
“This project is a tangible response to the housing needs of the population,” stated the Vice Prime Minister.
“It is part of a comprehensive policy aimed at improving the quality of life for all Mauritians.”
The National Housing Development Company (NHDC) has already delivered over 2,900 housing units across the island and aims to maintain this momentum.
The NHDC’s representative remarked, “Our goal is to ensure that every Mauritian has access to decent and affordable housing.”
