Public Sector Interim Allowance: Salary Increase Ranges from Rs 500 – 2,000
The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, has approved the Interim Allowance proposed by the Pay Research Bureau (PRB). This measure will apply to all public sector employees, government departments, and parastatal bodies, pending the next PRB report scheduled for January 2026.
During a press conference on Friday, August 9, Public Service Minister Anjiv Radhany announced that the PRB has recommended an Interim Allowance that amounts to 5% of the Master Salary Scale, as indicated in the 2021 PRB report.
Specifically, this interim adjustment will translate to a salary increase of 5%, with employees receiving a minimum of Rs 500 and a maximum of Rs 2,000.
The Interim Allowance will take effect on July 1, 2024, resulting in back pay for the months of July and August; payments will be made in September 2024.
