Last Thursday, August 1, the police force welcomed 494 new recruits, comprised of 176 Temporary Women Police Constables and 318 Temporary Police Constables, at a ceremony held at the Gymkhana Club in Vacoas.

Among the recruits, 288 are Mauritian men, while 157 are Mauritian women; additionally, 19 individuals from Rodrigues, including ten men and nine women, joined their ranks.

These new recruits are set to undergo a training program lasting at least 28 weeks, following which they will officially integrate into the police force during a Passing Out Parade.

The Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, hinted at further recruitment opportunities in the near future after the recent inclusion of 599 recruits into the force in June.

The new officers will be assigned to various training schools across the island, including the Police Training School at Casernes centrales, the Special Support Unit Training School, and the Wings 1 and 2 of the Police Training School in Vacoas, as well as the Coast Guard Training School and the Special Mobile Force Recruit Cadre.

The recruitment process for these individuals began several weeks ago, starting with their applications followed by interviews.

Candidates then underwent a series of assessments, including a Biomass Index test, an aptitude test, and a medical examination before receiving their acceptance letters.

The ceremony concluded with a Guard of Honor, attended by Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and Police Commissioner Anil Kumar Dip, marking a significant step in the expansion of the police force.
