ATMs Skimming Incidents Detected: Public Urged to Remain Vigilant
The Mauritius Bankers Association has issued an urgent statement addressing the rising threat of skimming attacks. Skimming is a type of bank fraud where a device known as a “skimmer” is surreptitiously installed on automatic teller machines (ATMs) to capture sensitive card information.
In their announcement, the Association reported that several banks have identified instances of this fraudulent activity affecting a limited number of ATMs.
They confirmed that law enforcement has been notified and that arrests of several suspects have already taken place.
To protect affected customers, the Association stated that the bank cards compromised by these skimming incidents have been disabled and are currently being replaced.
They strongly advise the public to exercise caution and remain vigilant when using ATMs.
