Tragic Road Accident Claims Life of Police Sergeant in Flacq
A serious traffic accident occurred in Fuel, Flacq, on the morning of Thursday, August 1, 2024, resulting in the death of Sergeant Vidya Kumar Jadoo, 55. The officer, a motorcyclist with the Traffic Branch assigned to the office of the Vice President, was tragically killed on impact when he was struck by a pickup truck. The driver of the vehicle has since been arrested.
Sergeant Jadoo, a resident of Richemare, Flacq, had dedicated 32 years to serving in law enforcement.
On that fateful morning, he was riding his police motorcycle to work when disaster struck.
He was traveling along Bonne-Mère Road, but as he reached Fuel, he was hit by the truck, resulting in his motorcycle being sent tumbling to the side.
Emergency services including Flacq police and an ambulance quickly arrived at the scene; however, they found that Sergeant Jadoo had already succumbed to his injuries.
Firefighters were required to extricate his body from underneath the vehicle. The accident caused significant traffic congestion in the area.
The pickup truck driver underwent a breathalyzer test at the scene, which came back negative.
During questioning, he told police that he was traveling in the same direction as the sergeant and claimed that Jadoo had turned right to enter a private road, leading to the collision.
Following his statements, the driver was taken to Flacq Court where he faces provisional charges of homicide.
An autopsy conducted later that day confirmed that Sergeant Jadoo died from multiple injuries sustained in the incident. At his family home, loved ones are in mourning. He leaves behind his wife and two daughters.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Ashok Matar from the Traffic Branch expressed grief over the loss, stating, “He was a hard worker and a valued member of our team. It is tragic what has happened.”
The funeral for Sergeant Vidya Kumar Jadoo is scheduled to take place on Friday morning, August 2.
