Casino Staff in Recruitment Standoff Due to Regulatory Hurdles

The employees of casinos operated by the State Investment Corporation (SIC) are facing a significant staffing dilemma. A shortage of personnel has prompted the workers’ union to urge management to recruit additional employees.

Consequently, a recruitment process was initiated, targeting candidates aged between 18 and 35. These applicants underwent a three-month training program and were on the verge of being hired.

However, the ability to work at gaming tables hinges on obtaining a crucial pass issued by the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA).

Unfortunately, ten candidates found themselves unable to secure this pass. According to a union representative, the GRA informed them that these individuals did not meet the age requirement for employment in the sector, as they had not yet reached the minimum age of 21.

The representative noted that previously, individuals as young as 18 were allowed to work in this field.

“But since the implementation of the new regulation by the GRA, the rules have changed,” he lamented.

He criticized management for failing to consider these regulations prior to moving forward with the hiring of these young individuals.

“This situation does not alleviate our staffing crisis, especially at the Grand Casino of Domaine Les Pailles.”

The roles that these young candidates were expected to fill were primarily those of dealers.

The union representative expressed deep concern over this predicament and is hopeful that a swift resolution will be found to address the staffing shortage and secure the future of these aspiring workers.
