SIM Re-Registration: Rangasamy’s Legal Appeal Heats Up on Sept 30
After a lengthy wait, a date has finally been set for the constitutional appeal hearing of Me Pazhany Rangasamy’s case. All parties involved have been notified that the proceedings will take place on September 30, 2024.
The lawyer is contesting the re-registration of SIM cards, arguing that it violates the Constitution and demands that it be declared null and void.
According to Defi Media’s sources, the Legal Support Officer assigned to the Office of the Public Prosecutor, Mehzabeen Sayed-Hossen, is expected to testify on the day of the hearing.
She was previously ordered to provide statistics on the number of individuals prosecuted for illegal possession of prohibited items.
Meanwhile, the “status quo” ordered by Chief Judge Bibi Rehana Mungly-Gulbul regarding the exercise of re-registering SIM cards remains in effect until a decision is made in Me Pazhany Rangasamy’s constitutional appeal.
The hearing will be a critical moment in this ongoing legal battle, as it may determine the fate of the SIM card re-registration process and its impact on citizens’ rights.
