70 Policemen Still Waiting for Double Pay on Sundays

In his New Year’s message, the Prime Minister announced that all public sector employees working in essential services who work on Sundays would receive double their daily salary.

However, this promise has taken time to come into effect, and some essential service workers, including police officers assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in the Grand-Port-Savanne district, are still waiting to receive their double pay.

This situation has created immense frustration, especially since their colleagues working in other divisions have already received their due pay.

Around 70 police officers in the Grand-Port-Savanne district are affected by this issue.

These officers are constantly on duty, even when they are at home, ready to respond at a moment’s notice.

“We’re always on duty. Even when we go home, we have to be prepared that if something happens, we’ll have to leave,” explained one of the affected police officers.

“It’s unfortunate that we haven’t been paid compared to our colleagues.”

The police officers have tried to get explanations from their superiors, but they were told they only work day duty.

Threats of transfer were also made if someone reported the situation, according to a detective.

The frustration of the CID South police officers is palpable. They are continuing to serve with dedication, hoping that this promise of double pay will soon be honored to recognize their engagement and constant sacrifice.

It appeared that a report on double pay has been sent to the Police Executive office, but it was missing a high-ranking official’s approval.

The police communication cell has been contacted, which advises the affected officers not to lose morale.

According to them, decisions were made during a meeting last week, and the police officers will soon be paid.
