In a significant development, the Minister of Transport, Alan Ganoo, has announced that a temporary driving license for new drivers who have just passed their driving test is likely to be introduced soon.

According to a confirmation from PWC India, a leading consulting firm, the government has been assured that such a system is feasible.

The details of the proposed temporary license are still under consideration.

Under the new system, drivers who fail to demonstrate their ability to operate safely on the roads during a probationary period may have their license revoked.

The announcement was made by Minister Ganoo during the launch of 20 new buses for the National Transport Company (CNT) at the beginning of the month.

Additionally, the Minister revealed that a 23-acre plot in the Forest-Side region has been identified for the construction of a training center for truck and motorcycle drivers.

According to Ganoo, current drivers are not adequately trained to drive safely on their own and have often obtained their licenses by learning from family members rather than through formal training.

The proposed center will feature state-of-the-art technologies and infrastructure, including wet asphalt and simulated road conditions to prepare drivers for realistic scenarios such as driving in rainy weather.

Furthermore, CNT is set to acquire 100 diesel-powered buses and 200 electric buses in the near future.

Separately, CNT’s General Director, Rao Rama, announced the launch of an app called Mobis, which will enable bus users to track the arrival times of buses at specific stops.
