Govt Dispenses Rs 3.76 Billion in July Pensions Allocation

In response to the expected increase in old-age pensions announced in the 2024-2025 budget, the government has disbursed a staggering Rs 3.76 billion. This increase has benefited a total of 269,245 individuals aged 60 and above, marking an increase of 987 beneficiaries compared to June.

In parallel, widows, invalids, and orphans have also received significant allocations, totaling Rs 629.7 million for the same month.

In July, 16,520 widows and 363 widows from Rodrigues received pensions amounting to Rs 14,000 each, totaling Rs 236 million for these beneficiaries.

Invalids, who also received Rs 14,000 each, received a total of Rs 388 million, distributed among 25,853 individuals in Mauritius and 1,398 in Rodrigues.

Orphans, numbering 344 in Mauritius and 48 in Rodrigues, benefited from a financial support totaling Rs 5.7 million.

According to data published by Statistics Mauritius yesterday, a total of 268,258 people received retirement pensions in June. Among them, 262,996 individuals aged 60 to 89 years old received a pension of Rs 13,500.

Those aged 90 to 99 years old numbered 5,085 and received a higher pension of Rs 21,210, while centenarians numbered 1,777 and received Rs 26,210 each.

Severely disabled individuals numbering 20,064 received Rs 3,500 each.

Regarding widows, 16,580 in Mauritius and 369 in Rodrigues benefited from widow’s pension in June.

Additionally, 1,107 individuals in Mauritius received an allowance of Rs 353 per month, which was extended to 32,301 individuals in Mauritius and 474 in Rodrigues for similar financial support.

Since July 1st, the amounts for old-age pensions for widows’ pensions for invalidity and orphan allowances have been harmonized to Rs 14,000.

Individuals aged 60 to 64 years old receive Rs 14,000; those aged 65 to 74 years old receive Rs 15,000; those aged 75 to 89 years old benefit from Rs 16,500; those aged 90 to 99 years old receive Rs 24,210; and centenarians receive Rs 29,210 – a sum that is Rs 15,210 higher than what individuals aged 60 to 64 years old receive.
